The Department of Finance and Administrative Services provides support to the City Council, City Manager, and all City departments, as well as the community, and provides a wide range of support for general financial reporting, administration, and Information Technology. The department's services fall into three general categories Accounting and Reporting, Budget and Operations, and Information Technology.
Accounting and Reporting
Accounting and Reporting manages and maintains financial records to conform with generally accepted accounting principles and in compliance with federal, state and local laws. This area prepares the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, subject to the annual audit, and administers the investment of public funds, cash management and the issuance of debt.
Budget and Operations
Budget and Operations cashiering, business licensing, payroll, accounts payable and the collection of revenue and receivables including utility billing. in addition, staff prepare, monitor, and report on the City's budget.
Information Technology Information Technology (IT) is responsible for maintaining a secure and functional data network for the City. IT provides technical support, systems administration, geographic information system mapping, and maintains the City's website.
In July of 2014 Moody's Investor Service upgraded their ratings on the City's outstanding bond issues. These higher ratings mean that Bainbridge Island taxpayers will save a significant amount of money on future bond issues.
