Training and Events
Preparedness Starts with You!
The City is currently offering a number of training opportunities and preparedness events at no cost to you. These offerings are designed to provide you with the skills and resources you need to keep yourself, family and pets safe in the event of an emergency or disaster. The more prepared we are at home, the more resilient we are as a community!
Warming Center/Severe Weather Shelter Training: This training is offered a few times per year. It is mandatory for anyone in the community who wants to volunteer to work in on of the Island's Warming Center/Severe Weather Shelter sites during an activation. The training is held in the Council Chambers at City Hall and is approximately 3 hours long.
Initial Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training: This training is offered twice a year on Bainbridge Island - once in the spring and once in the fall. It is open to Bainbridge Island residents only. It is conducted by Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management (KCDEM). CERT training covers the following functions: basic disaster preparation, fire suppression, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, team organization and the Incident Command System (ICS), disaster psychology, and terrorism. Classes are generally 2.5 hours in length.
Refresher CERT Training: This training is offered several times throughout the year. It is open to active members of the Bainbridge Island CERT Team only.
