  • Oct. 16: Park District hosts open house on design alternatives
  • Oct. 8 - 22: Public comment period for design alternatives advertised in Bainbridge Review
  • Sept. 27: City hosts design charrette ; 14 stakeholder groups invited, representing cultural, recreational and environmental interests, and 150 residents; 29 attendees, no one turned away
  • Sept. 8: City submits SRFB grant final application (construction)
  • July 10: City presents restoration project status update to Park Board
  • June 10: MOA initiates review of federally required historic/cultural resources (Section 106 consultation) with members of Suquamish Tribe, Bainbridge Island Historical Society and City's Historic Preservation Commission, to determine Area of Potential Effects (APE)
  • June 6: Elliott Bay Trustee Council MOA signed by all parties
  • May 28: Council approves Anchor Environmental scope of services
  • May 1: NOAA holds public meeting regarding NRDA restoration planning process in Eagle Harbor
  • Apr. 13: Mayor executes MOA with Elliott Bay Trustee Council
  • Apr. 9: Council approves Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) funding through Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Elliott Bay Trustee Council, which includes an example of a restrictive covenant intended to protect funded habitat restoration
  • Mar. 12: Council approves agreement with Anchor Environmental, Inc. for shoreline restoration projects, including Strawberry Plant
2007
  • Dec. 12: Resolution 2007-29 presented to Council - no action taken

  • Oct. 12: Mayor executes S RFB grant agreement (design) - effective date of grant
  • Oct. 10: Council accepts SRFB design grant and approves a motion to plan for active use of park as appropriate
  • Sept. 27: Presentation made to Park Board on shoreline restoration program, opportunities, site contamination fram adjacent tank farm property located to east and Park District involvement in planning
  • July 31: SRFB awards design grant
  • June 27: Council approves license agreement with Conoco Phillips Company, for access to remove petroleum contamination on Strawberry Plant property
  • June 7: IAC approves use of tennis court area for private club use at Waterfront Park and transfers use-restrictions to entire Strawberry Plant property
  • Apr. 11 - 12: Council authorizes request for State Office of the Interagency Committee (IAC)transfer of use-restriction from Waterfront Park to Strawberry Plant property, Mayor sends request
2006
  • Nov. 29: City makes amendment to SRFB grant application

  • Oct. 25: Council approves the transfer of land use restrictions from Waterfront Park to Strawberry Plant Park, prohibiting private facilities on public property with a simple motion approval
  • Sept. 18: City applies for a Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) grant for shoreline restoration with approval of City Administrator and as part of the City's ongoing Shoreline Stewardship Program. Grant proposals are for multiple public shoreline sites, including the Strawberry Plant property - design grant
  • May-June: City explores uses of Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) fund from Wyckoff Superfund site for restoration of Eagle Harbor shoreline, receives response from NOAA
  • Mar. 22: Council authorizes review of appraisal in preparation of Waterfront Park conversion of state recreational funding use-restriction that limits private club facilities use
2002-2005
  • Mar. 23, 2005: Council approves temporary lease agreement for a portion of Waterfront Park for use by the Bainbridge Island Rowing Club, a private club

  • Jan. 28, 2005: City acquires Strawberry Plant property via r eal property exchange agreement with private owner/developer
  • Nov. 10, 2004: Council approves real property exchange agreement with Park District to exchange John Nelson Park and Strawberry Plant property, which:
    • Terminates Park District lease on John Nelson Park
    • Outlines joint-planning process for Strawberry Plant Park
  • Nov. 2, 2004: Open Space Commission recommends to the City Council a real property exchange transaction whereby John Nelson Park is to be exchanged for the Strawberry Plant property
  • Sept. 16, 2004: Open Space Commission requests memo from staff outlining potential restoration opportunities
  • Oct. 8, 2002: Open Space Commission nominates the privately-owned Strawberry Plant property for open space acquisition
