Winner: #41 by Diane Walker
Featuring a salmon, a strawberry, a tree and a heron, the design incorporates many of Bainbridge Island’s well known attributes. The design was created and submitted by Diane Walker, a resident of Bainbridge Island.
In an effort to raise awareness of the City’s single-use carry-out bag ordinance (commonly known as the "plastic bag ban") and to encourage reusable bags, the City hosted a design competition for what will become “The Bainbridge Bag.” 44 original designs, specific to Bainbridge Island, were submitted in the last two weeks of September.
Voting took place October 1 – 12 and 154 votes were placed. The votes were spread widely amongst many of the designs. Three designs received over 20 votes apiece and the winner with 27 votes was design number 41.
The “Bainbridge Bag” will be given away to encourage reusable bags, just in time for the plastic bag ban to take effect. The ordinance goes into effect on November 1, 2012, at which time plastic bags less than 2.5 millimeters in thickness are prohibited at check out or point of sale.
